20th December 2019 is the first launched of Muhibbah Malaysia Food Bank Society.
We are one of fast-growing size of the foodbank’s operations in Malaysia and recognized as Main Strategic Partner (RSU) under Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living.
What remains with us is the original concept; we collect surplus food supplies and/or close-to-expiry goods, rescue rejected products that are still fit for consumption. Ans we are re-distribute these items to centres around Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Malacca, Pahang, Johor, Perak, Terengganu, Penang, Kelantan, Perlis and Sabah.
Presently, we support about 40 centres through initiative. Ever since the nation has implemented the Movement Control order in March 2020, Muhibbah Foodbank has been kept busy with food aid relief collection and distribution.
We mainly target the indigent community for aid distribution, but we also provide relief aids of dry food, drinking water, blankets and sanitizers to flood or disaster victims.
Together with local community and council leaders, we have launched the Negeri Sembilan Food Bank Road Tour 2020 programme on 31st October 2020. The aim is to engage local councils in the entire process of providing food aid relief to an estimated 1000 families across the state. Distribution activities are done by the end of the year.
Even though most of the food items we received are either sponsored or donated, some major items still need to be purchased. Our biggest purchases of food aid items are rice, cooking oil and sugar. We constantly appeal to the public for gracious donation of funds to enable us to continuously purchase these necessities.
Dr. Jacyntha Lo, or lovingly known to the community as Dr J Lo, began her tertiary studies in March 1998 at Inti University, Nilai.
At the same time, she joined the insurance industry as a part-time agent to support her student life. She graduated with a bachelor’s in business information technology in the year of 2000, at a tender young age of 21.
Since entering the insurance field, she has never looked back. She went on to achieve the International Quality Award (IQA), USA. In the year 2006, she claimed her position in the Million Dollar RoundTable, USA-the highest benchmark of the industry.
She kept pushing herself forward and went on to clinching many more awards; Court of Table USA from year 2014-2016, AKARD Top 7 Award for 2 consecutive years, and was even named once the Top 11 in Malaysia by NAMLIFA. She has also made her home state Negeri Sembilan proud by winning countless Top Personal Sales Awards and Overall Group Champions alongside her elite group of agents.
Dr. J Lo has been exposed to charity acts since she was a little girl, with credits to her father. He has always taught her that it is a bigger blessing to be able to give than to receive.
In 2012, she began what she now calls her charity journey. She volunteered in many places such as Tzu Chi International School, Malacca, Tzu Chi Muar Jingsi Hall, Tzu Chi Da-ai Station, Charis Home, Mantin, Little Flower Learning Centre, Seremban, and Buddha School, Nepal.
Education is something she holds very high regards of. Therefore, she continued her studies to attain her Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from Sabi University, France in the year 2017.
2018, she founded En Xin Soup Kitchen to continue growing her charity journey, with emphasis on sustainability. That year itself, she was named one of JCI’s Ten Outstanding Young Malaysian (TOYM), historically being the first lady from Malaysia’s financial industry to do so.
The following year, she successfully opened up En Xin’s very own Restoran Dapur Sedap, where free meals are provided daily to the underprivilege community, and surplus food items such as organic vegetables, fruits, breads, and dairy are collected.
The rescued food items, which can amount up to 10 tonnes, are in turn re-distributed to support over 40 centres in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor and of course her beloved home state, Negeri Sembilan.
Restoran Dapur Sedap was awarded the 2019 JCIM Sustainable Development Goals (Zero Hunger)- a recognition endorsed by the United Nations.
In July 2020, Muhibbah Foodbank successfully acquired a pre-owned 1-tonne chiller truck through part-sponsorships and donations.
This truck was much-needed upgrade for the collection of rescued food supplies, donated bulk items and the regular delivery of relief aids in a higher volume.
This truck was made possible through funding and sponsorships from LNM Wealth Advisory Sdn. Bhd., YAC Fruits Sdn. Bhd. and Multiplex Development Sdn. Bhd.
With this truck, it is now possible for us to rescue perishable food items from a further location or to transport them in proper temperatures.
May 2021, we were once again blessed with a generous sponsoring of another addition to our fleet. This time, Infra Mobile Digital Sdn. Bhd, has kindly agreed to donate a 1-tonne lorry for our increasing volume of donation and sponsorship collection.
This lorry comes with a canvas cover backing, so the cargo compartment will enable us to transport bulkier items such as rescued furniture with better ease.
